St.Pat's Day Irish Style

The two leprechauns getting ready for a presentation for Leah's class. Dave also went Eva's preschool and surprised a few neighbors with his pot of golden treats.

I love this kilt. We bought it on a trip to Ireland before we ever had kids..

Leah's cute class, they were so green and festive. Random fact, did you know that pinching is not an Irish tradition. Imagine Dave's surprise when pinched at his first St. Patricks Day in America.

The kids all sat around Dave as he taught the class. He educated them on why Saint Patricks Day came to be, leprechauns, and a few Gaelic phrases.

Rachel

So it's late in the day on Monday. Over the weekend Rachel celebrated her 30th birthday. For the longest time I wanted Rachel to have an amazing day and do whatever and have whatever she wanted.

Unfortunately, this did not happen. We needed to move 60 wheelbarrow loads of dirt and after some feeble efforts from myself in the morning (I had to leave to go to work) it was left for Rachel and some good Samaritans to finish up moving it all.

Then, after all my efforts to get Rachel a brilliant present (a new Kitchen Table) I screwed that up be giving her some honest feedback (which I should not have done) on why the certain table she loved may not be the best for us.

When it was all said and done, I'm sure it was not the best birthday honey. I'm sorry.

So, I wanted to say to the 36 people that read this blog, that I have an amazing wife. She is everything that I want in a companion. She is smart, funny, ambitious (yea Real Estate), loving, caring and patient. I'm looking forward to growing old with you and celebrating your 60th birthday in style.

I love you and you can get whatever kitchen table your heart desires.

Eva Turns 4

Eva turned 4 and had her first friend birthday party. We went to Arrowhead Stable. It looked just like Horseland Stable the kids favorite show. The owner took us on tour. Then the kids all got to help brush and get the horse we were going to ride ready. There was an indoor arena that each of the kids got to take a turn riding on the horse in. They also brought in a miniature pony that the kids could brush and pet while they waited. I was very impressed with the place and it was really affordable After we went back to my house for presents and Eva's horse cake.

All She Wanted For Her Birthday....

All Eva wanted for her birthday was a new big llellow pretty. AKA a new blanket made by her mom like Leah's. I love this little girl and wanted to grant her birthday wish. Pretty cute that was all she wanted. Soooo I induced myself into a stress filled sleepless night quest to get the blanket done before I left on my trip. I don't know if I have ever publicly divulged that I do not like any crafts that take more than a hour. For one I usually have to much to do and it stresses me out. Reason number two I am not that imaginative and needed some major hand holding to get yellow to coordinate with any of the ribbons at the store. So the sewing machine is put away until Ronan is old enough to ask where his home made blanket is.

By the way she does love it and sleeps with it at night.

Why I Volunteer at School

Leah has always been very good with words. She is very expressive and is always making hilarious comments. I love this part of her. But she picks the one thing I just wish she wouldn't say and out it comes.

See exhibit A. This is a picture that Leah drew in Kindergarten. The top says Leah & Logan. The picture is of her and Logan asleep in a bed during Christmas time. See the tree and lights around the bed, very romantic. Mrs. Piper showed this to me at parent teacher conference. Leah told us, "this is a picture of when my friend Logan and I slept together." It is a good thing that I know Mrs. Piper well from volunteering at school. I asked Leah when that happened, "when you went on your trip and I stayed at Logan's house." "She was 2," I quickly said to her teacher. We laughed through the rest of Leah's parent teacher conference.

Less than a week later I am in the bathroom. The phone rings and Leah picks up. She come running upstairs bangs on the door someone was on the phone for me. When I pick up all I hear is laughing. Oh no what has Leah said is my first thought, and who is this is my second one. It takes the caller a good minute to gain composer enough to talk. It is Holly Piper her teacher. Leah answered with, "my mom is in the bathroom, she is all locked up."

Kid Quotes June - January

Every so often I have to clean up my sidebar. I like to put the quotes in a post so that they are preserved. So you probably have already read these nothing new.

January

Ronan's favorite word is "why." Here is a typical day around here. Note these really happened today.Me, "Ronan don't dump out your water", Ronan "why?"Me, "Ronan lets not hit the car with a rock," Ronan, "why?"He also is into the "I do, I do". Another favorite of mine he will walk up to me and say, "doooing." As in what are you doing.

Eva said tonight as I put her to bed. "Mom I have pizza in my belly and you in my heart. When you aren't around I keep your love in my heart.

"Leah says quite often, " the reason I can remember so many things is because my brain is so big. I have the biggest brain that is why I am so smart."

December

Leah decided she was going to go door to door in our neighborhood asking for work. She would clean for people. Then they could pay her in money, movies, or treats. Because she would like to be responsible.

Eva says, "When I grow up I am not having a baby(yes she still hates babies). And I am only going to eat pizza, granola bars and rice.

"Leah has always been really good at expressing herself. Lately she has been drawing me pictures when she is mad. It is usually a stick figure with a frowny face and a big x.

November

Eva said, "when I grow up I want to be a farmer. Then I won't have to go to church."

October

Leah got in trouble today for making a bad choice she excused herself by saying, "I bumped my head and then my brain went away. It got all mixed up that is why I made a bad choice.

"Eva is tired and her eye is a little blurry. She keeps making the funniest comments. " I keep seeing lots and lots of my muffins and lot and lots of TV.. maybe we need to take me to the doctor and he will say I have an eye infection...mom do you know that when eyes are sleepy they just go to sleep themselves."

After waking up to snow on Sunday Eva could not wait to play outside. When she found out that we had to go to church first she was very disappointed and responded, "but church is so long when we get out winter will be over.

"Ronan has started hitting. That is not funny, but what is? He says sorry after hitting, hits again sorry, hits again soooorrrry.

Leah got mad at me last night because we don't have crazy enough Halloween decorations. We don't have as many as her friends. I sent her to time out when she came back she said, I am still mad.

September 2008

When asked how Leah liked her first soccer game she responded, "that was funner than kindergarten." My shoes (pink cleats) made me run so fast.

July 2008

The girls came upstairs with piles of hair. Luckily it was their ponies that had gotten the trim not theirs. I did find one chunk of Leah's hair fell out when I brushed it this morning. Leah told me, "Eva made me do it she is going on a trip to Hawaii and needed it for the people that live there.

"Leah told me as she was going to bed tonight. I don't like to be just calm. I like to be silly. I was born to be silly.

Ronan's first sentence, "I want pop." Later that day he said as Dave was in the shower, "take a bath.

"Prepare to be grossed out. Eva asked Davy if she could borrow some of his buggers because hers were all gone. Dave said, "Eva that is disgusting, why." She giggling said, "I like to eat them yum yum.

"Eva just asked Leah, "may I have this dance." I walked in and they were slow dancing.

June 2008

We were planning a trip to the Dinosaur Park. Davy was teasing Eva that the dinosaurs were going to come to life and eat her. She said, "no they wont Daddy because they have had their bones taken out.

"Ronan learned to say tickle tickle tickle. He says it as he pretends to tickle me.

For Karla

For Karla.... who thought it would be a good idea to pull out everything in my kitchen right before dinner. Then leave me with a mess and piles of stuff all over. No really it forced me to take care of messy closets that drive me crazy everyday. She was as close to giddy as a person can be organizing and planning out how to arrange my stuff. Karla really is so good at it that she could do it for a living. Any way these pictures probably aren't of any interest to most of you. But they are for her who left before the best part, seeing it finished.

My pantry had become the catch all for everything. Backpacks, food, papers, keys, and kids art stuff. We took everything office out of there and put in a strictly office cabinet.

My favorite result was the kid cabinet area. They have a lot of art stuff that they cant get to or make a mess finding. This cabinet is right on their level and close to the table where they work.

I came downstairs yesterday to find this. Leah had made Ronan toast, put his bib on, set the eating area. Cute huh.

Davy got Leah this trophy at the DI. It is for being a fast runner. She has planned a class for all her friends. She is going to teach them running, gymnastics, jumping, and wrestling. Anyone want in?

Like father like son

I had to put this together. I always had dirt on my face as a little kid, always. 29 years later my son, Ronan, is carrying on the tradition of "dirt on your face, big disgrace..."
